Em and Me

Today, Em and I got the chance to go exploring on our own. We decided to start our day with some sights that we didn't get a chance to see over the weekend. Our first stop was a famous Jewish Synagogue that had been restored after the war. It was beautiful from the outside. Then we made our way on to Museum Island. There were a bunch of museums, but we didn't go in any of them. Instead, we headed across the river to see Berliner Dom, a very ornate church. When we walked in to the sanctuary, I was taken aback at the details. There was gold everywhere and the paintings were beautiful. The pictures below don't even come close to doing this church justice. There was an organ that had 7200 pipes!!!! I wonder what that would sound like on a Sunday morning. Em and I sat in there and just took in the beauty for a while. After the church, we decided to go get some lunch. We ate at a cute little care where we were able to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. While we were eating, we could see the Rotes Rauthas, which is where President John F. Kennedy made his famous speech in Berlin. After our lunch, we took the train to a shopping district near our apartment. We spent the afternoon wandering through European stores. We even bought some things! One of the stores we saw is one of the largest department stores in Europe, called KaWeDe. It was pretty impressive. After our shopping, we headed back to the apartment to meet up with Ryan. The three of us went to a cute little Italian place and had delicious pizza! It is already beginning to feel like home.
